What happens when the whole world loses it’s mind?
What happens when the whole world loses it’s mind?
They say there’s a fine line between genius and crazy and if you’re the type that’s spent your life walking that edge, one can imagine you might have wondered once or twice about which side you really belong, so I’m going to tell you something my grandmother told me that settles the debate once and for all.
Crazy people don’t think that they’re crazy.
It doesn’t get anymore more simple than that.
Truthfully, we’re all a little crazy but you’re thinking about it, so that’s good. It means you’re self-aware and probably open to growth. That’s what I like about people thinking they’re crazy. They’re so crazy that they don’t actually care if they’re crazy. They’re right on this cusp of reality pushing the edge, testing boundaries and questioning things. That fine line between genius and crazy is real, which is probably why it hasn’t always been easy for people like this. The question is, how do we know when crazy shifts from a mindset, to a disease?
Historically, the status of one’s mental health was determined by what the majority believed to be reality, at the time. Anyone who challenged the perspective of the group was considered to be crazy. It didn’t matter if they were trying to say something intelligent or make something better. It didn’t even matter if it was Jesus preaching perfect logic; people don’t like it when someone is trying to change their mind about something against their will. Anyone trying to challenge the cultural narrative was a dangerous threat to the group, so they were insane. The issue of sanity was very cut and dry.
Today, psychologists are still trying to identify what sanity is and how to describe the overall status of mental health in a population, but at least they have some better insights and their guidelines have improved. A sane mind is generally considered to be one that is rational, which means that it can make decisions based on objective reasoning and logical thinking that is separated from emotion. Emotions are irrational factors that influence our perception, so a conscious effort has to be made to avoid including them in rational decision making. An insane mind is one that is irrational. This type of mind uses emotions to make decisions that are unreasonable and often illogical.
Recently, the cumulative effects of Pandemic Trauma, Political Divisions, Main Stream Media Propaganda, Big Tech Censorship and Global Economic Uncertainty have people so emotionally triggered that they’ve become completely incapable of forming a rational opinion. We’ve reached a stage in history where true sanity is a rare commodity reserved for a small minority of the population and the majority of people are insane.
What is so concerning about all of this is that when the majority of people begin to act irrationally and unreasonably, it actually becomes psychologically dangerous to be a sane person and often physically, too.
Just imagine a large group of people who are incapable of demonstrating rational decision-making skills trying o normalize insanity because their argument has been validated by the majority, instead of logic. Now, imagine these same people have been led to believe that they are well-educated and able to think for themselves because that is what they were told by the people educating them, even though they are not actually thinking for themselves, so they won’t even acknowledge their absence of logical thinking. They won’t even consider it. Doesn’t that sound terrifying?
This is what I call Popular Insanity. It’s cognitive dissonance at its best and brainwashing at its worst. Popular Insanity is how a democratic nation of people with really big hearts, who were never taught how to separate emotions from logic, build the road to hell with their good intentions.
It’s also how intelligent people who act as the voice of reason are chalked up as insane. The people diagnosed as insane are actually more sane and rational than those responsible for diagnosing them in the first place.
Popular Insanity is a worst-case scenario.
